Cooper to replace Bowman in Toronto

By Leigh Hine on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 05:00

The Toronto Fire today announced that Scotty Bowman had been relieved of his coaching duties with Jon Cooper joining the franchise as Head Coach on a two-year deal. Announcing the changes, Toronto GM, Leigh Hine felt the change was necessary after the regular season performances that saw the Fire sneak into the post season on the last game. 'Whist I appreciate the efforts of Scotty and his coaching team, the Fire underachieved during the 82 games of the regular season and that cannot go un-noticed. The team put up a good fight against a strong Ottawa team in the first round of the playoffs, but if we are to achieve our ambitions next season, the rebuilding starts now. 'I am delighted Jon has agreed to join us the revamping of the roster to bring the XHL championship to Toronto starts today'.
